2008-2009 Season Auditions

The Puget Sound Youth Wind Ensemble is looking for talented musicians to join us for the 2008-2009 season. Further auditions will be held in the Music Building/Schneebeck Concert Hall at the University of Puget Sound on the following dates:

Wind Instruments:



Woodwind and Brass Auditions

All auditions will be played without accompaniment and evaluated for tone quality, intonation, rhythmic accuracy, technical precision, and musicality. Please prepare the following for your audition:

  1. Two musical selections of your choice, displaying contrasting styles (one fast and technical, the other slow and lyrical), no more than a total of five minutes in duration. Excerpts may be chosen from standard solo literature, etudes, or band/orchestra repertoire, and may come from one or two different works.
  2. Three major scales of your choice (two octaves, when possible), performed from memory.
  3. Chromatic scale demonstrating the full range of your instrument (as low and high as you can comfortably play), slurred, and performed as fast as possible.
  4. Sightreading chosen by the conductor.

Percussion Auditions

The audition requires performance on snare, timpani and mallets.
