Dr. John Falskow is Director of Instrumental Music at Tacoma Community College, where he has also served as Chair of the Music Department. Dr. Falskow conducts the TCC Orchestra, TCC Symphonic Band, and teaches a variety of classes in the music curriculum. In addition to duties at TCC, Dr. Falskow is the Music Director and Conductor of the Puget Sound Youth Wind Ensemble – a select, high school musician ensemble. Falskow is an active conductor, music educator, and trumpeter throughout the Northwest region.
As a guest conductor, Dr. Falskow has made numerous appearances including: Tacoma Concert Band, Northwest Mahler Festival Orchestra, Bremerton Symphony, Tallahassee Youth Symphony, the Big Bend Community Orchestra, the Evergreen Music Festival, and Brass Unlimited. He has also worked with countless school ensembles throughout the Southeast and the Pacific Northwest. Dr. Falskow was the conductor of PugetBrass – a Seattle based British brass band, as well as the Bremerton Symphony Youth Orchestra. Prior to these activities, he served as an Assistant Professor of Music at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. Dr. Falskow was also the band director at Mason Middle School, in Tacoma.
Dr. Falskow completed his Ph.D. in Music Education at Florida State University, where he also conducted many of the university’s instrumental ensembles. His education also includes degrees from Washington State University, and the University of Puget Sound. Additional conducting training includes numerous masterclasses, workshops with the American Symphony Orchestra League, and the Conductors Institute of South Carolina.
Dr. Falskow lives in University Place with his wife, clarinetist Dr. Cindy Renander. They have a happy and busy house with three children: Karl (14), Dana (12), and Erin (7).
Scott Fry is a music educator in the Puyallup School District and free-lance percussionist. He has served as Director of Bands at Emerald Ridge High School for 9 years where his ensembles have been consistently awarded high marks in competitions and contests. Prior to his current position at ER, he taught band in the Bethel and Auburn School Districts. As a music educator, Scott is an active performer and adjudicator. In addition to his work with PSYWE, he has adjudicated numerous area solo and ensemble festivals and band contests in Western Washington, and conducts wind sectionals for the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association.
Scott has performed with many area music ensembles, including the Tacoma Symphony Orchestra, Northwest Repertory Singers, Tacoma Concert Band, South Sound Symphonic Band, Swing Reunion Orchestra, SWOJO Big Band, PLU Choral Union, Tacoma Musical Playhouse and the Washington Wind Symphony.
